Dindigul is not a tourist spot but gave a real experience of what life is like for ordinary people in India today. I loved the fish market and flower market, also shopping with the owners of Lakeside to get groceries and fruit and vegetables - an experience you don't normally get on holiday.
Dindigul fort up on a huge outcrop of rock is steeped in history (from the British back to Tipu Sultan and even further back) although there is little to see there now you get excellenet views of the area - only climb if fit and before it gets too hot!
Lakeside is also close to the temple city of Madurai (about 1.25 hours) The temple is amazing and the Gandhi museum thought provoking. It is certainly worth taking the organised excursion from Lakeside then coming back here for the night rather than staying in the noisy city where it is hard to sleep.
